MoMA’s 2022 Black Arts Council Benefit
The Museum of Modern Art’s Black Arts Council Benefit was held on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 and honored artist Titus Kaphar and former NBA player and art collector Elliot Perry. The event featured a performance by BLKBOK and DJ sets by DJ Reborn and Nikki Kynard.
About the Black Arts Council
Founded in 1993 by Dr. Akosua Barthwell Evans and MoMA trustees Agnes Gund and David Rockefeller Jr., the Black Arts Council of The Museum of Modern Art (formerly the Friends of Education) was established as an audience development effort and to support art and artists of African descent. Each year, exclusive members-only programming includes gallery talks, curatorial walk-throughs of exhibitions, studio visits with artists, private collection visits, and more.
The mission of the Black Arts Council is to foster a greater appreciation for art and artists of the African diaspora by prioritizing and supporting Black perspectives in The Museum of Modern Art’s program and initiatives. This group of philanthropists, collectors, and art enthusiasts fund acquisitions by Black artists, support educational programs on Black art, and create opportunities for Black arts professionals at MoMA.
